During 2024 the local monthly quizzes proved to be a regular source of income for the branch.
Sarah Spong and Valerie Miller spoke to both River WI and Kingsdown and Ringwould WI about the work of Save the Children. We spoke about malnutrition and how the number of children under the age of 5 years dying from malnutrition has fallen from 12 million to 5 million. So great progress has been made but much more needs to be done. We outlined how Save the Children works hard to bring health care to those in the most remote areas who would not otherwise receive health care. In many countries people have to pay for health care so Save the Children continues to campaign for world leaders to provide healthcare that is free to all. Child Protection is at the heart of our work and Save the Children is now the leading agency for reuniting missing children with their families. We also outlined how education is a key priority for the charity as children who miss out on schooling are socially and economically deprived so Save the Children will repair damaged schools and support learning. Save the Children has its own Emergency Response team so can respond instantly to a disaster. We are also one of the 15 charities that comprise the Disasters’ Emergency Committee and we recently launched an appeal for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
